The Basic Crime Scene Investigations 3-day, 24 hour course provides in-depth information on processing and documenting crime scenes, including the processing steps, note-taking, crime scene photography, DNA evidence collection, latent print processing and documentation, reference print collection, impression evidence collection and documentation, blood enhancement reagents and documentation, and trajectory analysis. 

This course also includes practical exercises designed to reinforce the material and techniques presented.  The lectures and exercises build the crime scene investigator’s skills through the course in the proper processing and documentation of scenes and the proper collection and preservation of scene evidence. 

This class is ideal for beginner crime scene investigators who have not yet taken a crime scene course or seasoned investigators who are looking for current techniques and practices in the field.  This course will provide the student with knowledge of the currently accepted scene documentation and proper collection and preservation of on-scene evidence.  Lectures and case studies combined with practical exercises that are designed to provide a working knowledge of the fundamentals supporting the proper crime scene processing and documentation techniques will be presented throughout this course.

Michele Smith
Michele Smith earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences with a minor in Anthropology from Louisiana State University.  She is currently the Crime Scene Unit Supervisor at the Louisiana State Police Crime Laboratory in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  She is a Certified Senior Crime Scene Analyst (CSCSA) and a Certified Latent Print Examiner (CLPE) through the International Association for Identification (IAI).
