BLOODSTAIN PATTERN ANALYSIS: PATTERN CLARIFICATION
 WEBINAR

Instructor: Amy Santoro, MFS, CBPA, CSCSA
Course length: 6 hours

Pattern classification is a key step for bloodstain pattern analysts to determine the pattern type for each bloodstain pattern present on a scene. In this webinar, participants will learn how to evaluate a bloodstain pattern by considering five key criteria (size, shape, distribution, location, and appearance). After considering the five criteria of physical features, participants will learn to classify bloodstain patterns by using a modified ACE-V method developed by the instructor. Participants will complete a practical exercise. This webinar will not qualify participants to perform bloodstain pattern analysis.

  1. Bloodstain Pattern Characteristics (60 minutes)

    2. Shape
    3. Distribution
    4. Location
    5. Appearance
  2. Bloodstain Pattern Classification (90 minutes)

  7. Quiz (15 minutes)

Practical Exercises
  1. Students will practice classifying a bloodstain pattern as a group. In the group exercise, the instructor will walk the participants through each step of classification. Participants will work on data collection and interpretation individually, with each step of classification being reviewed in real time by the instructor.
  2. Students will complete an independent exercise where they will be provided with bloodstain pattern images and will classify them according to the methodology taught by the instructor.
  3. Students will complete a quiz

Student Assessments
Students are required to take a final exam and pass with a score of 70% or higher to successfully complete the course.
