WRITTEN CRIME SCENE DOCUMENTATION: NOTETAKING & REPORT WRITING (WEBINAR)

Instructor: Brian Turner, MFS, CTPE
Course length:  6 hours

Crime scene documentation is a critical aspect of forensic investigation, essential for preserving the integrity and accuracy of evidence. This process includes a variety of methods such as detailed notetaking, photography, sketching, videography, and 3D scanning. All documentation efforts are ultimately compiled into a comprehensive crime scene report, which plays a pivotal role in the successful prosecution of criminal cases.

This six-hour webinar will provide participants with practical instruction in effective notetaking and report writing techniques, beginning at the onset of an investigation and continuing through to the completion of the final report. Attendees will gain valuable insights into both the documentation process and the development of thorough, accurate crime scene reports.

Attendees are required to be equipped with paper and a writing implement during the virtual classroom portion of the course for the notetaking portion of exercises.

Schedule:
Hour 1: Lecture on Notetaking on Crime Scenes
Hour 2: Practical Exercise on Notetaking
Hour 3: Lecture on Report Writing
Hour 4: Practical Exercise in Report Writing #1, Exercise Review
Hour 5-6: Practical Exercise in Report Writing #2, Exercise Review, Final Exam

Testing:
Students will be administered a written test on principles covered in the lecture at the end of the online classroom period. A minimum score of 70% is required to pass the test and receive a certificate of completion providing the attendance requirements are met.
