CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATIONS WORKSHOP

Instructor: Sharon Plotkin, MS, CCSI
Course length: 4 hours

 Bloodstain Pattern Recognition

Violent crime scenes usually involve blood shedding events that, if properly recognized and documented, not only can answer vital questions but allow for bloodstain pattern analysts to assist in rendering important opinions that can lead to successful investigative outcomes.  This Bloodstain Pattern Recognition webinar will provide the foundation for bloodstain pattern recognition in answering pertinent questions such as where people may have been positioned on a crime scene, type of instrumentation used, directionality of bloodstains, effects of surfaces encountered, and force applied on bloodstains. Chemical use for enhancing and detecting blood and documentation techniques for blood shedding events will also be examined.

Upon completion of this 4-hour webinar (3-hour lecture, 1-hour practical exercise), the student will be introduced to the historical perspectives of bloodstain pattern recognition relevant to blood shedding events on crime scenes.  Participants will be introduced to the application of this information in successfully recognizing and documenting important bloodstain patterns that will aid in the criminal investigation.  A follow up practical exercise will ensure the objectives have been met.  Students must complete the assignment in order to pass the course and receive a certificate.
