Forensic Anthropology for the CSI is a hands-on forensic anthropology course designed to include lecture, discussions, and activities to familiarize crime scene investigators with human skeletal remains and analysis.
 
The lecture and discussion portion of the class will review human osteology, which is the basis for determining human versus nonhuman, minimum number of individuals found, a beginner biological profile including age, sex, ancestry, and stature, and a basic trauma analysis of human skeletal remains.
 
During the activities, crime scene investigators will learn how to apply the discussion topics to hands-on scenarios and skeletal analyses.

Melissa Torpey, MS

Holding a M.S. in Forensic Science from Michigan State University and B.A. in Anthropology from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, Melissa Torpey has worked as a forensic anthropologist in the field for over 12 years.
She currently teaches for the Anthropology department and for the Forensic Science: Crime Scene Investigation Certificate program at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.
