IAI TENPRINT CERTIFICATION WEBINAR SERIES - PART 1: WRITTEN EXAMINATION

​Instructor: Brian Turner, MFS, CTPE
Course length:  6 hours


 The purpose of this review course is to review concepts, texts, and articles required for the written examination portion of the IAI Tenprint Certification Test.  In addition, students will be familiarized with the types of questions asked on the written examination.  It is important to note, this course is not a substitution for reading all the required material. 
 
Students will complete a sample practice written examination. The questions on the sample test are created based the reading material.  This instructor does not have access to the Tenprint Certification Test Questions.
 
Students taking this course must be qualified for IAI Tenprint Certification, including two years of full time working experience in the area of tenprint identification. 
 
Students are required to read all required texts prior to the webinar.  Time will be given for students to ask questions on any of reading material.

  • The Science of Fingerprints – Chapters 1-4; 8-10
  • Quantitative-Qualitative Friction Ridge Analysis by David Ashbaugh – Chapters 1-4
  • The Fingerprint Sourcebook – Chapters 1-6, 9, and 13
  • Strengthening Forensic Science in the United States: A Path Forward (NAS report)
  • Discriminability of Fingerprints of Twins (Twin Study)
  • Accuracy and reliability of forensic latent fingerprint decisions (Black Box Study)
  • Measuring What Latent Fingerprint Examiners Consider Sufficient Information for Individualization Determinations (White Box Study)
 



This course has been approved for 6 hours of training credit in the Tenprint Certification Board.

Brian Turner
​Holding a Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Biology from Ramapo College of New Jersey and a Master’s Degree of Science in Forensic Science from the University of New Haven, Brian Turner began his career as Tenprint Examiner for Broward County Sheriff’s Office in Biometric Identification Unit.

He ran the internship program at the Biometric Identification Unit and instructed incoming Department of Detention Deputy Cadets in basics of fingerprint science.
