PROPERTY & EVIDENCE
PROCEDURES

Instructor: Lawrence Stringham
Course length: 16 hours

The Property and Evidence Procedures course is designed to provide the student with an understanding of best practices for today’s property and evidence (P&E) discipline.  Within the two days of instruction, several topics will be covered from training to disposition of evidence.  This class will stress and instruct high responsibility issues that are found in the field of P&E to include:

•    Safety and Security
•    Training and FTO programs
•    Proper acceptance procedures
•    Audits/Inspections and Spot checks

These topics are suitable for the new evidence trainee to the more experienced P&E technician.  An open time will be provided during the course so that departments can compare procedures and policies as they refer to best practices.  A special block of instruction will also be given in liability subjects to include:

•    Weapons
•    Narcotics
•    Money and high dollar items

Finally, newer technologies will be covered and discussed in depth so that the student can understand the relationship of these technologies and their place within the P&E unit.  Topics will include handheld scanners and scan guns, bar code labeling and storage software, and understanding how the receipt and disposition of evidence is critical.
