About Stephen Warlen
Steve Warlen has Master of Science and Bachelor of Science degrees in Criminal Justice Administration from the University of Central Missouri (Central Missouri State University), awarded in 1977 and 1975 respectively. He was a police officer with the Kansas City Police Department, working in the patrol division for a number of years before transferring as an officer to the crime lab in 1972. As an officer assigned to the crime lab, Steve worked for four years as a crime scene technician and then for another twenty years as a forensic photographer and latent print specialist. He retired as an officer and returned to the crime lab as a Forensic Science Specialist in 1997.
Steve is a member of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences, the International Association for Identification (IAI), and the Missouri Division of IAI, for which he also acted as President and Chairman of the Board for three terms. He is a P.O.S.T. Certified Instructor by the Missouri Department of Public Safety. Steve has lectured and presented poster sessions and seminars at a number of meetings and conferences throughout the United States. He has been published in the Journal of Forensic Sciences (AAFS), the Journal of Forensic Identification (IAI), the Kansas City Police Crime Laboratory’s quarterly publication CSI Forensic Forum, and other forensic newsletters and publications. Additionally, Steve has received over 400 hours of training in latent prints and forensic photography at the FBI Academy.
