UNDERSTANDING BIAS ERROR IN FORENSICS WEBINAR

Instructor: Deborah E. Smith, MSFS, CLPE, CMQ/OE
Course length: 7 hours

ABSTRACT:  Understanding Bias and Error in Forensics

Forensic analysts – especially those involved in cognitive decision-making during their examinations – must have an understanding of the effects of human factors, as well as the causes and consequences of human error, in forensic analyses. Careful study of a variety of factors that may directly and indirectly affect forensic scientists will allow for the provision and establishment of quality control methods to defend against bias and other significant sources of error.

This is a fun, interactive workshop that takes an in-depth look at various types and causes of bias and errors, thus providing attendees with a strategic view of a variety of behaviors that lead to errors in forensic science so as to best maintain a proper quality management system.
