Individuals such as investigators, analysts, and technicians, sometimes encounter Hazardous Materials at the scene to which they respond. Having a basic understanding of these materials Hazardous Materials only exist in 2 states, controlled (normal) and uncontrolled (emergency). In a normal state hazardous materials are handled, packaged, contained, stored, and used properly. They are still hazardous but are not dangerous. Only in the uncontrolled state are they harmful.
This webinar will educate the students about basic strategies to safeguard health and safety in the event there is the potential to exposure of a hazardous material at the crime scene being investigated. LEARNING GOALS: The purpose of this training is to provide students with basic knowledge, information, and skills so they may respond in an appropriate manner in an event involving an encounter with hazardous materials. Holding a AS degree at Miami-Dade College (MDC), her BS degree at Barry University, and her MPA at Florida International University, Karen Joseph is now retired from the Miami Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR) Department as a firefighter, paramedic, hazardous materials specialist. During her 25 years on the department Karen obtained numerous certifications: Inspector 1, Instructor III, Live Fire Training Instructor 1, Educator’s certificate and 911 Safety Communicator. |
