About Laura Pettler, Ph.D.
Named one of the world’s most influential women in forensics in 2019, renowned forensic criminologist, death scene reconstruction system expert and inventor, and licensed private investigator, Dr. Laura Pettler owns and operates Laura Pettler & Associates (LPA), voted the #1 Scientific, Multidisciplinary, Victim-Centered Death Investigations firm in the world three years running. After coming off weekends touring for her first original album, ‘TRUCKS R4 GIRLS’ and while employed simultaneously as Prosecutorial District 20A' of North Carolina’s Homicide Investigator, Director of its Crime Scene Reconstruction & Behavioral Analysis Program, and Head of its Cold Case Homicide TASK FORCE, Dr. Pettler earned her PhD in 2011 by publishing the world’s third doctoral dissertation on crime scene staging behaviors in homicide cases housed in the United States Library of Congress, then published the first book in the world on crime scene staging, five-star best seller entitled, Crime Scene Staging Dynamics in Homicide Cases. In 2013, Dr. Pettler invented The Kaleidoscope Shooting & Bloodstain Reconstruction System, by reimagining her original 2008 ‘Tubular Dowel Crime Scene Reconstruction’ system still sold in 30 countries since 2009.
Laura began studying psychology in 1993 and began working in the behavioral science field, then in 2002 she integrated forensic science into her work in death investigation. Laura earned her Master of Science degree in 2003 with now more than 17 years in post-graduate shooting, bloodstain, and crime scene reconstruction experience, training, research, and publication. Laura earned her PhD in 2011 and now has more than 10 years post-doctoral experience, training, research, and publication in scientific death investigation. Along with being a scholar-practitioner working homicide, writing, teaching, inventing homicide-related methodologies, and her music, Dr. Pettler also works in True Crime television and podcasting. Laura and daughter, Alexis, own Phoenix Media Group, LLC, which manages their television, film, music, and podcast projects.
Dr. Pettler appeared as the OzTeam Forensic Criminologist on the 9x Emmy-Winning The Dr. Oz Show for four seasons and was the Forensic Criminologist on the Emmy-Winning CBS46 cold case tv show CSI Atlanta Seasons 1 and 2. Laura is also Executive Producer/Host/Artist of LPA’s upcoming podcast The Murder Room dropping in 2022, and was co-host of Melissa Moore’s podcast Life After Happy Face in 2021. Additionally, in 2017, Laura was the Executive Producer/Host/Artist Notorious: True Crime Stories with Laura Pettler, nominated for Best Director by the International Academy of WebTelevision.
