Introduction to Pettler's Staging Taxonomy for Staged Murders
Crime scene staging in homicide cases is when an offender murders a victim then manipulates the crime scene, physical, and often the behavioral evidence to misdirect investigators and make them think the victim died in a legitimate way. Staged cases can be a huge problem for investigative teams because many times the crime scene evidence does not solve the case. There has never been a better time, it has never been more important, and it has never been more possible than it is now to learn how to catch the crime scene stager in his or her tracks. This course introduces students to new ideas that can be employed while investigating crime scenes, to detect staging and to understand steps that can be taken to solve the crime when standard investigation of the crime scene doesn't do this.
Staging is an extremely important behavior to understand. It is a common behavior that often misleads investigators, and, if not recognized, it thwarts justice. No investigator "wants" a cold case. No investigator wants a grieving family to continue to suffer. No investigator wants to watch his or her homicide investigation go cold right before his or her eyes. By studying human behavior and crime scene reconstruction using physical evidence, investigators can sharpen their early detection and analytical skills to prevent the crime scene stager from trying to get away with murder.
In this course based on her book, Dr. Laura Pettler, one of the world's top crime scene staging experts, will introduce you to steps that can help you to identify, analyze, and evaluate Crime Scene Staging Dynamics in Homicide Cases towards getting to the truth while preventing a case from going cold and in pursuit of justice for victims.
